NORTH READING — The Select Board will hold an informational meeting on Monday, February 27 at 8 p.m., both in-person and virtually, on the warrant for the Special Town Meeting called for Monday, March 6.

The Select Board’s information meeting on Feb. 27 will once again be held in the Distance Learning Lab at NRHS, 189 Park St., not at Town Hall, in order to accommodate more people.

This meeting will also be broadcast live virtually via Zoom at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82366018385 (To get the live link, simply visit the calendar page on the town website, northreadingma.gov, and click on link provided on the agenda notification.)  Those participating via Zoom may participate in the meeting by raising their hand on their screen to talk to those in the meeting room.

While Norcam will also stream the meeting live and broadcast it live via cable, remote participation is not available when utilizing these outlets.

The lone article on the March 6 Special Town Meeting warrant is the citizens’ petition called for by lead sponsor Adam Austin, 42 Main St., Unit 4, and signed by 345 certified registered town voters seeking to amend the town’s General Bylaws under the category of “Assessments (Sewer Betterments)” essentially back to its original language as it existed prior to last June’s Annual Town Meeting. The amended bylaw was certified by then-Attorney General Maura Healey in October 2022.

By submitting a citizens’ petition with a minimum of 200 signatures of certified registered voters, the Select Board was obligated to call a Special Town Meeting within 45 days. The board did so at its meeting on Monday, February 13 and the Special Town Meeting warrants were mailed to all residential households in town late last week in order to be received at least 14 days in advance of the meeting. The warrant is also available on the town website (northreadingma.gov).

The last day for town residents to register to vote in order to participate in the March 6 Special Town Meeting is Friday, February 24. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open until 5 p.m. on that date to accommodate walk-in registrants. Or register to vote online by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 by visiting: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR/ Residents may also check their voter registration status by visiting this website.
