Former head ICU nurse at Winchester Hospital

Janis-Crafts-2-8-17-webMELROSE — Janis G. (Carucci) Crafts of Melrose passed away peacefully on February 4, 2017.

Janis was the beloved wife of Lou Crafts of Melrose and the loving mother of Philip Crafts and his wife Heather of Winchester and Steven Crafts and his wife Michelle of Lynnfield and the cherished grandmother of Samuel and Charlie.

She was the dear sister of Claire Donovan and her husband Jack of Florida, Alan Carucci and his wife Jody of Ipswich, Jack Carucci and his wife Pat of Boston, Debbie Jones and her husband David of Centerville, her late identical twin sister Judy Bees, and Nola Gladstone. Jan was the dear sister-in-law of John Bees, Dot Torpey, Dick Crafts and his wife Wanda, and Margie Frankina. Jan will be greatly missed by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Jan was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1965. She then went on to the nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she graduated first in her class as a registered nurse in 1968. In addition, she went on to receive her bachelor of arts degree at Emmanuel College in 1980. She worked as the head nurse at the intensive care unit at Winchester Hospital for many years. Jan enjoyed spending her summers at Newfound Lake with family, friends and especially her grandchildren.

The Crafts family wishes to thank her doctor, Dr. Arlan Fuller, and his amazing staff and also the very caring staff at the VNA home hospice.

Visiting hours will be held at the Lane Funeral Home, 760 Main St. (Rte. 38), Winchester on Wednesday, February 8 from 3–7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday February 9 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery Winchester.
