Former elementary teacher

 

Jean-Thompson-Obit-webSTONEHAM — Jean A. Thompson, 80, of Stoneham, died following a brief illness on March 22, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev. James W. Thompson. Born in Midway, Utah and raised in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Verda (Fox) Peterson.

Jean was a graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and she earned her master’s in elementary education at Boston University. She taught at the elementary schools in Lynnfield and Billerica

Being the wife of a minister, Mrs. Thompson and her family served churches in various states including Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. However, Jean thought of Stoneham as her home as she had lived in Stoneham for 36 years, longer than anywhere else. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and the Stoneham Garden Club.

She leaves her daughter Maria T. Nicholson and her husband Michael of North Reading and her son Timothy H. Thompson and his wife Shirley of Jackson Heights, Queens, N.Y. She was the sister of Ron Forrer of Fairborn, Ohio and John Peterson of West Jefferson, Ohio and cherished grandmother of Amanda, Rebecca and Katelyn Thompson and Michaela Nicholson. She also leaves many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services to be held Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 79 Central St., Stoneham, followed by burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
