Loved gardening and dancing

jean-card-web PEABODY — Jean Dorothy (Lamb) Card, 91, died peacefully at Rosewood Nursing and Rehab in Peabody on Oct. 12. The daughter of Harry and Ruby Lamb, she was born Aug. 31,1923 in Schenectady, N.Y. The family moved to West Newton when Jean was in high school. She graduated from Newton High School, attended Bridgewater State College and worked at a publishing company in Boston before her marriage.

Jean was the beloved wife of Harvey G. Card. They would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on Oct. 21. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Vigurs of Huddersfield, England and Miriam Warwick of Nashua, N.H.

She was the mother of Marilyn M. McCarthy of Lynnfield, Harvey L. Card and his wife Linda of North Reading, Barbara J. Conley and her husband John, of Fryeburg, Maine and Debra L. Card of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of William G. McCarthy of Lynnfield, Robert F. McCarthy of Watertown, Stephen J. Conley of Peabody, Scott G. Conley and his fiancée Elizabeth Davies of Salem, Jennifer L. Conley of Manchester, N.H., Michael R. Conley of Andover and Melanie J. Card of North Reading; also by three great–granddaughters, Lillian R. McCarthy and Margaret R. McCarthy of North Reading and Samantha J. Conley of Peabody. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jean enjoyed her family the most. She was a member of the Centre Congregational Church in Lynnfield, Ione Rebekah Lodge of Everett and EMARC. She also enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, sewing, cookies and ice cream, bowling and square dancing.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Centre Congregational Church, Lynnfield.
