Was City Treasurer here for 31 years

 

MacDonnell-obit_webMELROSE — Jean Sylvia (Hatch) MacDonnell, 82, of Melrose, died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Nov. 14.

Jean was born in Howland, Maine, a graduate of Malden High School and went on to secretarial school. She worked as the City Treasurer for the City of Melrose for 31 years before her retirement.

Jean enjoyed knitting, hand crafts, crocheting and reading. She loved and adored spending her time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean was the loving mother of John D. MacDonnell of Rowley, Beverly A. Marenco of Melrose, Harold B. MacDonnell and his wife Aileen of Leicester and William C. MacDonnell and his wife Beth of Melrose. She was the cherished grandmother of Amanda, Jonathan, Jaime, Robert, Kerry, Jeffrey and Henry. She was the devoted great-grandmother of Alexander, Donovan, Samantha, Lucas, Nora and Isla. She was the caring sister of Gerald Hatch of Fitchburg and the late Richard and Stephen Hatch.

A funeral service was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m.

Burial will be private.
