Jean-Hong-obit-webMELROSE — Jean Yeung Hong, 80, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 29 at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Jean was born in China, a daughter of the late Fung Chun Yeung and Woon Ho (Cheung) Yeung. She came to the United States in 1955 and settled in Melrose with her husband, where they raised three daughters. In her free time, Jean loved gardening, line dancing and traveling extensively with her husband.

Jean was devoted to her family and deeply cherished the time she spent with her husband, children and grandchildren. She took great pride in raising her four grandchildren, who will never forget her dedication, love and selflessness.

Jean was the beloved wife of Rolland C. Hong, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Jennifer C. Chin of Framingham; Kathleen C. Sullivan and her husband Daniel of Stoneham and Lillian C. Hong of Melrose. She was the dear sister of Penny Soo Hing Chong and her late husband Hong Fee Chong, Lan Jung and her late husband Sunny Jung, Soo Ping Wong and her late husband William Wong, So Ling Yeung, Soo Guan and husband Xi Chao Guan, all of Toronto, Canada; and the late Wing Jung Yeung and his wife Kitty Yeung of Randolph. She was the dear sister-in-law of Wai Hing Yeung of South Boston. She was the cherished grandmother of Curtis H. Chin and his wife Ashley Ward of Waltham; Zoe H. Chin of Somerville; Kenzie H. Chin of New York City and Alexander C. Sullivan of Stoneham. Her loving memory will remain with many nieces and nephews.

For every heart Jean touched, she leaves a person blessed.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Jean’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, April 3 from 4-8 p.m. and for her funeral service celebrated on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
