ObitSouthmayd-webWOBURN — Jeanne I. Southmayd, 73, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, died Thursday, Dec. 24 at the Woburn Nursing Center.

Born in Melrose, Jan. 4, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Louis A. and Julia (Sawyer) Evangelista.

Jeanne was a graduate of Nazareth Academy in Wakefield, Class of 1959. She was a very involved parishioner of St. Florence Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality.

She was a longtime employee of Guillow’s before her retirement. In her spare time she enjoyed camping with her family in New Hampshire and Maine.

Jeanne was the wife of the late James F. Southmayd. She was the mother of James M. Southmayd of Wakefield and his companion Marianne Raptis, and Karen J. Southmayd of Boston. She was the sister of the late Louis A. Evangelista, Jr. Jeanne is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield, at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 4 from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
