WAKEFIELD — Whiffle Balls flying, music playing and kids smiling.
That was the scene at Fernald Field on Sunday for Wakefield Little League’s 3rd annual Jimmy Fund Whiffle Ball Home Run Derby.
Little League coaches and parents volunteered their time and resources to continue the event created three years earlier by Little League coach Ralph D’Alleva.
The Home Run Derby was open to all ages and included food, raffles, music provided by Mike Viselli, a radar pitching machine and the always popular water balloon toss.
The objective is to host a family fun event that raises money for The Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber, while instilling the values of volunteerism and philanthropy in the community.
At the end of the day, the event raised significant money and the kids learned that they too can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Thanks to Shaw’s and Farmland of Wakefield for their generous donations.
