Former employee of New England Telephone Co. with local survivors

WAKEFIELD — Joan Ann (Dwyer) Curtin passed away at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on March 15. She was 85 years old.

Joan was born in Cambridge on Dec. 13, 1930 to the late Francis and Irene (McLaughlin) Dwyer. She was raised in Cambridge and Medford, and graduated from Medford High School. Mrs. Curtin has been a resident of Melrose for over 50 years, residing on Grove Street for many years. Joan worked for New England Telephone Company as an operator and in the office at Verizon for over 34 years, retiring at the age of 79.

It was all about family for Joan and she enjoyed every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. She also loved going to Foxwoods and to Las Vegas several times a year with her daughters Judy and Ellen.

Mrs. Curtin was the beloved wife of the late Charles B. Curtin. She was the loving mother of Daniel J. Curtin and his wife Debbie of Georgia; Thomas E. Curtin of Las Vegas, Nev.; Judith A. Corso and her husband Kevin of Melrose; Brian C. Curtin and his wife Mary of North Reading, and Ellen M. Vervaeke of Dunstable. She was the sister of the late Leo McLaughlin, Irene Sousa, Patricia Angelo and Francis Dwyer. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, Herbert Street, Melrose at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will take place at Tewksbury Cemetery in Tewksbury.
