WAKEFIELD — John J. Ahearn Jr., 74, died Monday, Jan. 25 in Wakefield.
He was born in Medford on May 6, 1941 and was the beloved son of the late John J. and Marguerite R. (Hurford) Ahearn. Jack was raised in Medford, Stoneham and Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School, Class of 1959. He soon enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1959-1965. After his military service, Jack joined Eastern Airlines and later Delta Airlines, where he worked for 30 years. He was a member of the Saugus Lodge of Elks and enjoyed camping throughout New England.
Jack is survived by his sister Patricia R. Mahoney of Wakefield and his brother Robert Ahearn and his wife Mary Frances Ahearn of Indiana. He was the uncle of Jeanne Caraglia, John Williams, Julie Paiva, Christine Maullenaur and Lori Mintzer. He is also survived by several great- nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew. He was predeceased by his longtime companion Frances Herrera.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
