Resident of town for 31 years
OSTERVILLE — John A. Cumming, 87, of Osterville, formerly of North Reading and Arlington, died at his home on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.
Born in South Boston on Jan. 28, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Carrie (Fredendal) Cumming. He was a graduate of Arlington High School and under the GI Bill a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He also attended night school at MIT. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a Seaman First Class and served from 1946 to 1947.
John has been a resident of Osterville for the past 27 years and a former resident of North Reading for 31 years. He worked as an engineer for the General Electric Company in Lynn for 40 years.
John loved his wife and children, they were his life. He had a special bond with his granddaughter Shane (his computer assistant). He loved visits and talking on the phone with her. He was cared for by so many people. He will be especially remembered for his laugh, the sparkle in his eye and the shrug of his shoulders.
He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Jeanne A. (Hanson) Cumming; the loving father of Philip Cumming and Scott Cumming and his wife Karen, all of North Reading, Debbie Cumming and her long time companion Ed McNeil of Brighton and the late Brian Cumming; he was the brother of Kenneth Cumming and his wife Nancy of California, Donald Cumming and his wife Jackie of Boxborough and Ruthie Gibbs of Minnesota. He was the cherished grandfather of Shane Cumming of North Reading.
His funeral service was held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Wednesday, May 27 at noon. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
