Galiano-obit-webMELROSE — John D. Galiano, 63, passed away suddenly at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Monday, March 16.

John was born in Melrose on June 4, 1951 to the late Russell and Mary (Morrissey) Galiano. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Essex Agricultural School and was a lifelong resident.

John worked for the City of Melrose in the Public Works Division as a laborer, a highway supervisor and as a department superintendent for 29 years. Mr. Galiano also had a small engine repair business for many years here in Melrose and worked part time at Knight Equipment Rental in Melrose.

He was an associate member of the VFW Harold O’Young Post #2394 & the Norman Prince VFW in Melrose, was a former exalted ruler at the Saugus Elks and was a past commander of the Fox Hill Yacht Club in Saugus. John enjoyed boating and loved to go camping.

He was the longtime companion and fiancé of Linda (Hallahan) Ryan and her son Mark Ryan. He was the loving father of Tamara Bagnell and her husband Daniel of NC, Dana Galiano and his wife Jennifer of Andover and Brian Galiano of Melrose. He was the brother of James Galiano of North Andover. He was the grandfather of Archer Bagnell and former husband of Barbara (Jackson) Galiano. He is also survived by many friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
