WAKEFIELD — John F. McCormack Jr., 78, of Wakefield died Saturday, May 20 at his residence.

Born in Winchester on January 10, 1939, he was the son of the late John F. and Ida Dorothy (Foley) McCormack.

Mr. McCormack was raised in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was a member of both the United States Submarine Veterans and the US Sea Owl Association.

Upon leaving the Navy he went back to school at Northeastern University and received his bachelor’s degree.

He had worked for Raytheon and Behr-Manning before ending his career as a sales manager for Castrol Oil.

Mr. McCormack had a love of travel, magic, comic books, Lionel trains, history, writing and football. Being a season ticket holder for Boston College football brought him great joy.

He is survived by his wife Tatyana (Pevzner) McCormack of Wakefield and her son Alexander Pevzner; his sister Virginia “Ginny” Tremberth; his nieces Kristen Fleury, Brenda Bourbeau, and Linda Lancelotte; his nephews Scott Lewis, Michael Tremberth, and Thomas, Dana, John, and Paul Fecteau; his aunt Rita McCormack; his uncle Michael McCormack, his sister-in-law Yelena Kotlyar and her husband Yuri. He was predeceased by his first wife Rosemarie (Ponte) McCormack, his brother Robert McCormack, and nephew Charles Lewis.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10 a.m.

Interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
