WAKEFIELD — John J. Lawton of Wakefield died Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Boston, Dec. 25, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Marie (DeVeau) Lawton.

John was raised and educated in East Boston. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. John has been a Wakefield resident since 1965. He retired from the M.B.T.A. after many years as a machinist.

John loved spending time at his summer home in Ogunquit, Maine.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte (Salimbene) Lawton; his three children, John J. Lawton Jr. and his companion Robyn Wong and Paul Lawton, all of Peabody, and James Lawton and his wife Laurie of Tewksbury. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
