Lamson-obit-webWAKEFIELD — John “J Elbow” Lamson, an 18 year resident of Wakefield and formerly of Melrose, entered into eternal life suddenly on Thursday, June 11, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 55 years old.

John was born in Malden on July 22, 1959, a son of the late Harold O. Lamson and Genevieve L. (Quill) Lamson.

He grew up in Melrose where he was educated in the Melrose Public School system and graduated from Melrose High School in 1977.

John began working at Shawmut Jewelers in the Jewelers Building in Boston in 1977 as a jeweler and in 1985 he fulfilled his life dream and purchased Shawmut Jewelers where he has been the owner for the last 30 years.

John enjoyed watching TV and was an avid history reader. John had a humorous side to him and enjoyed anytime he was able to play a practical joke on anyone and loved being around people and making them laugh.

John was the devoted twin brother of Tom Lamson and beloved brother of Peg Quin, Bill Lamson, Gen Lamson, Brian Lamson, Tim Lamson and the late Mary O’Connell. He was the loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John’s Funeral Mass on Friday, June 19, at 10 a.m. in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. His burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St., Melrose.
