Barberianobit-webWAKEFIELD — Joseph Barberian, 89, a longtime Wakefield resident died Wednesday, May 11 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Lawrence on July 8, 1926 he was the son of the late George and Mary (Lollian) Barberian.

Mr. Barbarian was raised in Chelsea and was educated in the Chelsea school system. He moved to Wakefield in 1973 and was a member of the Chelsea Elks Club.

He had worked for Watertown Arsenal until his retirement.

Mr. Barberian enjoyed reading and watching CNN News; he loved spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

He was the husband of the late Maria (Kibarian) Barberian. He was the father of John Barberian of Wakefield, Michael Barberian and his wife Gabriele of Dracut, Norine Pasquarello and her husband Mario of Saugus, Gregory Barberian and his wife Nairi of Dracut, Suzie Oliveira and her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Nancy Foley and her husband Steven of Stoneham and Kevin Barberian of Wakefield. He was the brother of James Barberian of Chelsea, Lorraine Burge of California and the late John Barberian and Florence Mazzio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield prior to the Mass beginning at 8:30 a.m.
