LYNNFIELD — Joseph E. McNall, 91, of Lynnfield, formerly of Newburyport and Wakefield died on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody.

Born in Lawrence on February 14, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Grace (Holland) McNall.

Mr. McNall was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. McNall was a retired supervisor for the Boston & Maine Railroad Company. He had been a Lynnfield resident since 1980 and was a longtime member of the Wakefield Elks where he enjoyed volunteering his time for charitable causes. Mr. McNall was an avid golfer and enjoyed participating in numerous golf leagues around Lynnfield. He loved dancing. He enjoyed drawing caricatures of family and friends as well as drawing cartoon characters of all sorts. He was well known for his great sense of humor and his ability to entertain everyone with his masterful joke telling. Most importantly, he was a dedicated family man who was loved by all.

Mr. McNall was the beloved husband of the late Barbara I. (Sullivan) McNall. He is survived by his two daughters; Patricia G. Stone and her husband, Mark, of Woburn and Julie A. Berardi and her husband, Paul, of Plymouth. Mr. McNall is also survived by his six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter JoAnne C. LaMontagne of Nashua, N.H., his daughter Susan J. McNall of Somersworth, N.H., and his three brothers; William McNall, Robert McNall and Thomas McNall.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
