Della-Piana-obit-webMELROSE — Joseph G. “Joe” Della Piana, a 15-year resident of Melrose and formerly of Everett, entered into eternal life suddenly on Saturday, July 11, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was 57 years old.

Joe was born in Boston on Dec. 5, 1957, a son of the late Fileno and Rose (Galluccio) Della Piana. He grew up in Everett where he was educated at Immaculate Conception Parochial School and graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1975. Joe furthered his education and received his bachelor of science degree in Business from Emmanuel College.

Joe worked in the banking business for several banks over his career. Joe loved his current job at Stoneham Bank in Stoneham. Joe also worked for Verizon in a management position for 12 years. Joe made many long lasting friendships with many of his co-workers.

Joe enjoyed listening to his oldies music and watching classic TV and old movies. Joe could never be disturbed when “Big Brother” was on TV. Joe also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing trivia. Joe loved dancing and was always the life of the party.

Joe was the family historian, always sharing his knowledge and humor about people in the family and past family events. Joe’s passion in his life was his family. He was always there for babysitting duties, sporting events, dance recitals and any important events in his family’s lives.

Joe was very proud of his family who were so very important to him. Joe also had many wonderful friends who he loved and cared for very much.

Joe was the beloved son of the late Fileno and Rose (Galluccio) Della Piana. He was the cherished brother of Anthony Della Piana and his wife Pia (Ferri) Della Piana of Saugus and the late Fileno Della Piana Jr., Neil Della Piana, Carmen Della Piana, Mary (Della Piana) Romano and Andrew Della Piana. He is the dear brother-in-law to Camille (Ruggiero) Della Piana of Dracut and Carol (Corby) Della Piana of Beverly. He was the devoted uncle to Al Romano of Everett, Nicole (Romano) Richardson and her husband Joshua of Malden, Andrea (Della Piana) McCullough and her husband Edward of Dracut, Neil Della Piana and his wife Jean (Kerrigan) of Tewksbury, Christian Della Piana and his wife Mary (Dawson) of Salem, Jennifer (Della Piana) Patel and her husband Samir of Braintree and Christopher and Elizabeth Della Piana, both of Saugus. He was the loving great-uncle to Erika and Kyle McCullough, Andrew and Avery Della Piana, Sergio Richardson, William Della Piana and the late Nina Grace Patel.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend Joe’s funeral on Thursday, July 16, at 7:45 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by his funeral Mass in St. Mary Church (corner of Myrtle and Herbert streets) Melrose at 9 a.m.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
