READING — Joseph “Joe” F. Griffin, of Reading, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015. He was 89 years of age.
Joe was born in Reading on Dec. 20, 1925, the son of the late James J. and Beatrice M. (Fitzgerald) Griffin. He was a graduate of Reading High School in June of 1943.
After his graduation, Joe entered in the United States Marine Corps. As a member of the Fourth Marine Division, he saw action in the February–March invasion of Iwo Jima. When he returned home, his working career was with the First National Stores on the managerial level.
Joe was an active member of the Reading American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Joe was the dear brother of Dr. Gerald R. Griffin and his wife Jane and the late Beatrice M. Kody, Margaret F. Wynne and James J. Griffin. He was the loving uncle of Nancy Marie Wood, Maureen Kody, Pat Centrella and Sandra Potter.
His funeral was held Monday, June 15 from the Doherty–Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., Reading followed by a funeral Mass celebrating Joseph’s eternal life in Saint Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading. Interment was in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
