Orsino-obituary-webSTONEHAM — Joseph J. Orsino, 85, of Stoneham and formerly of Melrose, died peacefully on Nov. 4.

Joseph was born on April 6, 1931 to John and Camella (Bromante) Orsino in the West End of Boston. He was raised in the West End and graduated from Boston Latin High School. After high school, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.

Following the war, Joseph’s family moved to Melrose, where Joseph raised his own family. He also earned a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern. Joseph did most of his traveling while he was in the Army but he also made a trip to Sicily to visit family. He had an artistic side as well; he enjoyed drawing, writing and he sang all of the time mostly in Italian. He loved music and always had something playing in the background.

Joseph was also an avid hockey fan, particularly the Boston Bruins.

Joseph was the longtime companion of Shirley Medeiros of Stoneham. He was the former husband of Roseanne Greene. He was the loving father of Jeannette Orsino of Boston, John Orsino and his wife Stacy of Arizona, James Orsino and his wife Katie of Stoneham, Julianne Orsino and her wife Emily Rivera of Malden, Joseph M. Orsino and his wife MaryAnne Carpenter of New Hampshire and Jennifer Ahlin and her husband Dennis of Wilmington. Proud grandfather of Easton, Alexandra, Aiden, Michaela, Olivia, Zachary, Shane, Audrey, Dominic, Casey and Cristina. Brother of Gaetana Spinale of Melrose, Frank Orsino of Virginia and Diane Battista of New Jersey. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 46 Herbert St., Melrose, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
