NORTH READING — North Reading girls’ softball announced that the 2017 recipient of the Softball Scholarship is Julia Perrone.

Perrone just recently graduated from North Reading High School as a member of the National Honor Society. During her softball career, Perrone earned varsity letters all four seasons and was named captain during her senior season. In 2016, she was also recognized as an Eagle Tribune All-Star, Cape Ann League Player of the Year, Team MVP, and also won the 2016 Boston Globe All-Scholastic Award.

She will be attending Stonehill College this fall.

“The awesome experience I had playing softball is something that I hope all girls have the chance to experience,” said Perrone. “The influence softball had on me when I was younger continues to push me as a graduating senior and soon-to-be college student. I plan to apply the values of hard work, commitment, and compassion to my academics and my athletics when I go on to college.”

Each year, North Reading Girls’ Softball is proud to offer scholarships to the graduating class. Next year, for 2018, the league will be offering $500 awards for up to three graduating high school seniors who have matured through their youth softball program.

To be eligible, the student must be a senior graduating in the Spring of 2018 but it does not necessarily have to be North Reading High School. The applicant must have been registered in the North Reading Girls Softball program for at least four years. All submissions are reviewed and voted on by the NRGS board of directors.
