Talented singer
WAKEFIELD — Katherine “Kathy” Cooney died suddenly on August 17 in Wakefield. A lively, talented and feisty personality, Katherine was the beloved daughter of Concetta (Perillo) Cooney and the late Richard Cooney.
Born and raised in Wakefield, Katherine’s passion for dance and music started early. From childhood recitals at the old Galvin Middle School to singing passionately with local bands, Katherine loved to entertain.
Katherine, part of a large Italian family, stood out with her personality and humor. She loved to make friends and family laugh by quickly recalling a song lyric or funny movie quote. Despite all her personal hurdles, Katherine opened a new place in her heart when she became the pet parent to a rescue cat, Lulu. When seeing the two together, you recognized a sweet bond based on love. Wherever Katherine was, Lulu was not far behind.
She was loved dearly by her siblings Kevin and Karin; the “Perillo” aunts Linda, Nancy, Maryann and Lena; many uncles, cousins and godparents Vito and Marie; and best friends Chuck and Jack.
While Kathy’s light might have gone dark, she will always be remembered brightly.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Thursday, August 22 at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday, August 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Donations can be made to the Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society Inc (PAWS), 411 Lowell Street, Wakefield, MA 01880. For online guestbook and directions, visit mdonaldfs.com.
