Mirandaobit-webWAKEFIELD — Katherine “Janet” Miranda, 79, a longtime resident of Wakefield passed away peacefully at the Sawtelle Hospice House on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Janet was the beloved wife and best friend of Richard “Dick” Miranda, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late James and Katherine (Burns) Casey. She was raised in Oak Square in Brighton and was a graduate of Our Lady of Presentation High School.

Janet was selflessly dedicated to her husband and family. She was a generous and loving woman, who always thought of others before herself and she was loved by all that met her. She had a passion for cooking and entertaining and enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially her many grandchildren who will miss Nana greatly. She greatly enjoyed good conversation, music, old movies, antiquing, reading, politics and watching public television. She loved her home in Wakefield and enjoyed summer vacations with family on Rye Beach.

Janet worked as an outreach worker for the Wakefield Council of Aging. She later served on the Board of Directors of the Wakefield Council on Aging, including many years as Chairman. Janet also served on the Fundraising Committee of the Friends of the Wakefield Senior Center. In addition, Janet was an outreach volunteer for Domestic Abuse Victims.

Janet is survived and will be dearly missed by her children Diane and her husband Brendan McCarthy of Winthrop, Susan and her husband Walter Byrnes of Wakefield, Rick and his wife Denise Miranda of Canton, David and his wife Shannon Miranda of Lexington and Gayle and her husband David Buonopane of Melrose. She was an adoring grandmother to her 10 grandchildren Patrick McCarthy, Miranda Byrnes, Richard, Michael, Kate and Laura Miranda, John Miranda and Nicole, Kristina and Andrew Buonopane.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
