Lifelong resident, Vietnam War veteran

 

MELROSE — Kevin J. Hurley, 68, passed away at his home in Melrose on Nov. 4.

Kevin was born in Melrose on Oct. 21, 1946, to the late Charles J. and Katherine M. (Twomey) Hurley. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School where he played football and baseball. He has been a lifelong resident of Melrose.

Kevin served his country with pride in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Hurley started his career working as a blaster for Lynn Sand & Stone for 10 years then he started ABC Insulation Company which he owned and operated for 22 years.

Kevin was a longtime member of the Melrose Elks, was a member of the Melrose Elks Bowling League, loved old movies, Johnny Cash and was an avid Boston sports fan.

Mr. Hurley was the former husband of Deborah G. (Clifford) Hurley. He was the father of Dennis Hurley and his wife Michele of Wenham and Stephanie McQuillan and her husband Derek of Beverly. He was the grandfather of Teagan and Braeden Hurley. He was the brother of Gerald Hurley and his wife Vicki of Melrose, Stephen Hurley and his wife Kathy of Sagamore Beach and the late Paul, Charles, Randall and J.B. Hurley. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral was from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Friday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors in St. Mary Church, Herbert Street, Melrose, at 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be private.
