NORTH READING — With their victory over Hamilton–Wenham the Hornets clinched the Cape Ann Kinney Division Title for the second consecutive season.  They are currently on a five match winning streak and have a record of 11–4.

Squeak Past Generals 3–2

The Hornets returned home and avenged a surprising early season loss, defeating the Hamilton-Wenham Generals 3–2 on May 16.

Junior captain Marissa Galuppo won in two sets at first singles 6-0, 6-4.  At second singles sophomore Tia Campagna cruised in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.  Junior captain Aly Budny remained undefeated at third singles winning convincingly in straight sets 6–1, 6–1.  The only losses came in both doubles matches.

Beat Big Blue, 4–1

On May 18 the Hornets went back on the road and won their non-league matchup with the Swampscott Big Blue 4–1.

Both doubles teams returned to the win column.  At first doubles Meghan Griffin and Megan Landers took care of business in straight sets 6–2, 6–1.  At second doubles the pair of junior captain Emily Zhang and Nicole Sullivan coasted 6–1, 6–1.

Sophomore Tia Campagna won again in straight sets at second singles 6–0, 6–2.  Junior Aly Budny was never challenged at third singles and won without dropping a single game 6–0, 6–0.  Marissa Galuppo suffered the only defeat at first singles.

Down Cougars, 3–2, under the lights

The Hornets extended their season high winning streak to five matches with their 3–2 victory over the Austin Prep Cougars on Thursday night.

The match was historic, in that it was the girls’ first night match played under the lights on the new NRHS tennis courts. The lights came on at 7:15 p.m. sharp and the girls and boys took on Austin Prep simultaneously for an amazing evening of tennis before a well behaved and appreciative crowd. It was a great night for high school tennis.

At first singles Marissa Galuppo got back on track with her straight set victory 6–2, 6–4.  Tia Campagna won her fifth straight match easily taking her match at second singles in two sets 6–0, 6–0.  Aly Budny had another easy straight set victory at third singles 6–2, 6–0.
