Fall in Season Opener to Masco 1-0

The Lady Hornets opened the 2015 season with a tough road matchup against the Masconomet Chieftains on September 9.

After beating Masco twice last season it was evident that the Chieftains had this date marked on their calendar. They consistently put pressure on the Hornet back line. Junior All League goalie Katerina Hassapis did everything possible to keep the game scoreless, making numerous saves on point blank opportunities. Even with the great play in net Masco was still able to score and took a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half North Reading had a couple of chances to equalize. But each time they ultimately came up a little short. As the seconds wound down, senior captain Katie Welch had a chance on a free kick. Welch placed a beautiful ball over the defensive wall, but unfortunately the ball rolled long and the final whistle blew.

Sink Clippers, 1-0

The Lady Hornets earned their first victory of the season with their 1-0 victory over the Newburyport Clippers on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Rachel Hill scored her first goal of the season. Katerina Hassapis made 11 saves and earned her first shutout of the season.

The defensive core of Katie Welch, juniors Giana Moscaritolo and Jessica Muise, sophomores Kirsten Bradley and Meredith Griffin played a great game and kept Newburyport off balance. After a scoreless first half, Rachel Hill broke the deadlock and got North Reading on the board in the 75th minute. Hill took a well-placed cross from sophomore Karlie Vesey and buried it in the back of the net.
