LYNNFIELD — Select Board Chair Dick Dalton paid tribute to late Finance Committee member Stephen Riley during a Dec. 16 meeting.

Riley passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 4. He was 57-years-old.

“The Finance Committee has lost one of its longest serving members,” said Dalton. “On behalf of the board, I wish to offer Stephen’s wife Michelle and his children, Spencer and Vanessa, our condolences and extend those to his entire family, friends and colleagues. He was a Lynnfield native who served his hometown with distinction, and he will be sorely missed. And when I say he served his town with distinction, Stephen was a member of the Masons, the Elks, was active in the Congregational Church, coached youth sports and was a member of and very active in Rotary. He was also a director for the Think of Michael Foundation. In respect to Rotary, our motto is ‘Service Above Self’ and Stephen certainly exemplified that. Rest in peace Stephen.”

Recreation Commission appointment

The Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Recreation Commission alternate member Crystal Lavino as a permanent member.

Lavino will be succeeding Recreation Commission member Matt Monkiewicz, who recently announced that he will be stepping down on Dec. 31.

“The board had previously appointed Crystal Lavino as an alternate in May, and stated that she would be in line for appointment to the committee upon the next vacancy,” said Dalton. “Ms. Lavino has indicated that she would accept an appointment as a full member. She is someone who has been very active in town and was instrumental in the Christmas Tree Lighting and a list of other things she has been involved in from PTOs and so forth.”

Lavino’s term will expire on June 30, 2026.

RMLD appointment needed

Dalton said the Select Board is currently seeking applicants for a Lynnfield representative to serve on the Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) Citizens’ Advisory Board.

“This has been vacant for awhile,” said Dalton. “The utility has to have a local representative. If anyone wants to step forward, let us know you would be interested.”

If residents are interested in serving on the RMLD Citizens’ Advisory Board, they can send an email to Assistant Town Administrator Robert Curtin at rcurtin@town.lynnfield.ma.us and/or can send a letter to Town Hall, 55 Summer St., Lynnfield MA 01940.
