Down host Medford 9-3

MEDFORD — The Hornets opened the boys’ lacrosse season with a 9-3 road victory over non-league foe Medford on March 31.

Senior Sean McGreal was the leading scorer with 2 goals and 1 assist. Juniors Brian Cotter and Nick Day potted 2 goals each.

North Reading had a strong first half. They took control immediately and went into the second half with a 4-0 lead.

The Hornets put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 4-0 to take a commanding 8-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Medford managed to score three times in the final stanza, but couldn’t put a dent in the huge lead created by the Green and Gold in this game.

Fall to Buccaneers in home opener

Despite 18 saves from junior captain and goalie Nick Ponte, the Bedford Buccaneers spoiled the NRHS home opener by defeating the Hornets 6-3 last Thursday at Arthur J. Kenney field.

Junior Nate Distasio scored 2 goals and Shane Bartlett added a goal.

North Reading did not play well in the first half and was outscored 5-1. The Hornets tried to battle back in the third quarter but still found themselves down 6-3 at the start of the fourth quarter. Neither team scored in the fourth and North Reading fell 6-3.
