Monge-obit-webSAUGUS — Lois M. Monge, 89, a resident of Saugus, and formerly of Melrose and Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Lois was born on December 30, 1925 in Wakefield, where she graduated from Wakefield High School. She lived in Wakefield for many years, Melrose for several years, and more recently had lived in Saugus.

Lois worked for 53 years at Fidelity Investments in Boston as an executive assistant. She dedicated her professional life to assisting in the day-to-day operations at the executive level.

A valued employee, she remained with Fidelity until retirement in her early 80’s, all while working for the same boss. Strong and independent, Lois enjoyed taking the train into and out of Boston every day. She made lifelong friends while working at Fidelity and enjoyed the company of her co-workers whom she deemed “good eggs.”

In her younger years, she loved travelling. She enjoyed several trips to Europe, and after years of anticipation took her dream vacation of going on safari in Africa. In her retirement, Lois became a regular volunteer at the Museum of Science where she led guided tours for students through the exhibits.

With her free time, Lois caught up with old friends many of whom she remained close with since grade school. She also loved animals, and spending time with family during the holidays. Most of all, she loved going out to eat, especially to Causeway in Gloucester for lobster casserole and a bowl of fish chowder to go.

Lois was the devoted daughter of the late Carlos A. and Beatrice (Guthrie) Monge. She was the loving sister of the late Carlos A. Monge, Jr. and his surviving wife Ellie, Anita Nicholas, and Nathalie M. Stoddard and her late husband Morris. Lois is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Lois’ memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston MA 02114; Boston Children’s Hospital, 401 Park Dr., Ste 602, Boston, MA 02215; Mass.
