BEVERLY — Anne (Kimball) Millett died peacefully on September 8 in Beverly.

Anne was born in her grandparents’ home in Wakefield on May 25, 1916. She attended Lesley College where she commuted into Cambridge in a model T car, complete with rumble seat. After graduation, she opened her own nursery school in Wakefield.

She moved to Lynnfield and had two children, Wendy and Doug. When her two children began school, she returned to work as the director of The Tower School in the Lynnfield Congregational Church. She worked there until she became a kindergarten teacher in Boxford.

She retired in 1981 and began caring for her four grandchildren Daniel, Amanda, Derek and Andrew.

She was an avid knitter, and especially loved knitting sweaters for her grandchildren. In her eighties, she began making Christmas stockings, baby sweaters, dolls, hats, booties and blankets for her future great grandchildren.

Anne was a good friend to many, never hesitating to drive from her Gloucester home to pick up friends in Lynnfield. She also enjoyed traveling. For her 80th birthday, she traveled to France with her daughter, granddaughter, and granddaughter’s best friend.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Manninen, and son-in-law, Fred, of Gloucester; her son, Douglas Millett, and daughter-in-law, Harmony, of North Wayne, ME; her four grandchildren: Daniel Holden and his wife, Lisa, of Hingham; Amanda Giguere and her husband, Jason, of Longmont, CO; Derek Holden and his wife, Amanda, of Denver, CO; and Andrew Holden of South Boston. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Maya Holden, 3, of Hingham; Holden Giguere (2) and Baxter Giguere (5 months) of Longmont, CO; and Brady Holden (1) of Denver, CO. She also leaves behind a niece, Carol Anne Conroy and her husband, Paul, of Rockport, and a nephew, Bill Brennan and his wife, Carol, of Madison, CT. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Harry Kimball, and her sister, Betty Brennan.

A private memorial service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. Arrangements by the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.
