Enjoyed bingo and going on vacations
MELROSE — Lorraine Marie (Doucette) Bowman, 92, of Melrose died on November 10. Lorraine was born in Boston on April 2, 1931. She grew up in the foster care system before finding her forever home with her foster parents, Joseph and B. Elizabeth McCarthy and her biological brother, Robert.
Lorraine met her husband, Frank and were married in 1953. Together they had 9 children. Lorraine was a dedicated wife, mother and daughter. When her children were grown, Lorraine worked for the VNA as a certified nurse’s aide taking care of numerous patients in the comfort of their own homes.
Lorraine later moved to the Joseph T. Cefalo building in Melrose, where she later retired and resided for almost 18 years. She enjoyed her time living there and made many, many close personal friends.
Lorraine is survived by her loving children and their significant others: Elizabeth Hudson and her husband Roy of Billerica; Thomas and his wife Teri of Londonderry, NH; Diane and her partner Don Archambault of Melrose; Donna Tully and her husband George of Leominster; and Kathy Brown and her husband Rich of Hampstead, NH. She is predeceased by her husband Frank; her daughter, Deborah; sons, Joseph, Frederick (Ricky) and Stephen; a granddaughter, Meagan; as well as her brother, Robert and siblings Helen, John and Verna, which she found later in life. Lorraine was Grammy to 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine’s family was everything to her. She loved being part of a big family and actively participated in family gatherings and events whether it was spending summers at the family camp in Amesbury when her children were little, going to bingo with her daughters or later in life spending time on vacations with her family and grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 20 at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 21 at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose immediately following her funeral. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org.
