AMESBURY — It was a great start to the season for the Lynnfield High boys’ cross country team on Sept. 11 in Amesbury. The Pioneers took on a tough course full of hills to come away with a 25-32 victory.
Lynnfield was led by senior captain Shea McCarthy (16:25) who had a huge sprint at the end of the race to beat Amesbury’s top runner for first overall.
McCarthy was followed by junior captain Dylan Nguyen (17:40, 3rd overall), junior Nick DeGennaro (18:32, 5th overall), sophomore Liam Gardner (19:24, 7th overall) and senior captain Ashkrit Mahajan (19:50, 9th overall).
“There were a lot of close finishes today that helped put the team over the top,” said head coach Bill Wallace, who was especially impressed with how his squad handled a challenging and unfamiliar course.
The Pioneers will look to keep it going on Wednesday when they travel to Manchester-Essex at 4 p.m.
