LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team won both of its games decisively last week.

Lynnfield (3-1) began last week shutting out Essex Tech 5-0 on Sept. 10.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Kaylee Barrett scored the Pioneers’ first goal 13 minutes in the game. Senior captain/midfielder Emma Rose had the assist.

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead after junior midfielder Bella Sykes found the back of the net 10 minutes before the break, assisted by senior captain/forward Bella Carroll.

Rose scored her first goal of the season two minutes into the second half. Sykes and Carroll had the assists.

Barrett nailed a shot seven minutes into the second half, assisted by senior captain/midfielder Clara Caulfield.

Sykes scored Lynnfield’s final goal a minute after Barrett scored. Caulfield had the assist.

Sophomore goalie Victoria Minor tallied five saves in net against the Hawks.

Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont said Barrett and Sykes played very well against Essex Tech.

“Kaylee and Bella both played great games for us,” said Vermont.

Vermont said senior Morgan Hubbard “did a nice job in the midfield.”

“Morgan helped control the midfield and made some nice early passes,” said Vermont.

Vermont commended the Pioneers’ play against Essex Tech.

“Essex Tech is a good team,” said Vermont. “They played well defensively, and it took awhile for us to break that down.”

Flushes Royals

The Pioneers kept rolling and defeated Georgetown 5-1 on Sept. 12.

Rose found the back of the net 18 minutes into the game, assisted by Sykes.

Barrett gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead after scoring seconds before halftime. Rose had the assist off of a corner kick.

“Kaylee had a great goal,” said Vermont.

Georgetown scored 13 minutes into the second half, which cut Lynnfield’s lead to 2-1.

Carroll nailed a shot with 17 minutes remaining in the game, assisted by Sykes.

The Pioneers took a 4-1 lead after Carroll scored her second goal with 11 minutes remaining in the game. Sykes had the assist.

Carroll scored her third goal of the second half with seven minutes remaining in the game, assisted by Rose.

“Bella came up big with the hat trick,” said Vermont. “She made some really great runs to put herself into position to receive the ball.”

Minor had seven saves in the cage against the Royals.

Vermont said Sykes did a good job finding open teammates against Georgetown.

“Bella did a great job finishing with a hat trick of assists,” said Vermont.

Vermont said Rose played very well against the Royals.

“Emma came up big with a goal and two assists,” said Vermont. “She made some great runs.”

Vermont said Lynnfield played a great game against Georgetown.

“Georgetown is a really solid team,” said Vermont. “They were organized well defensively, and we had to make some adjustments in the second half.”

Upcoming games

Lynnfield faced Hamilton-Wenham on Tuesday, Sept. 17, taking place after deadline. The Pioneers conquered the Generals 4-0 in last year’s Division 4 Elite Eight contest, which enabled Lynnfield to advance to the Final Four.

The Pioneers host rival North Reading on Thursday, Sept. 19, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
