LYNNFIELD — Two members of the Lynnfield High boys’ basketball team received postseason honors from the league coaches. Senior co-captain Luke Martinho  was named to the Cape Ann League First Team All-Stars. Fellow senior co-captain Jack Ford made the CAL Second Team All Stars.

Martinho, a shooting guard, led the team in scoring averaging 17 points per game. It is the first time he has made the All-Star team.

“Luke was tremendous for us,” stated Pioneers’ first-year head coach John Bakopolus. “He hit several big shots and was a pleasure to coach.”

Ford made the All-Star team for the third year in a row. The point guard made the First Team as a sophomore and the Second Team last year.

“He was our playmaker,” said Bakopolus, as Ford averaged 12 points and a team-high seven assists per game this year. “He is an excellent ball handler who set the tone on offense for us.”

Along with the two All-Stars, the Pioneers will lose five other seniors to graduation including their third captain, Blake Peters, and their top rebounder, Dante Gesamondo.

Bakari Mitchell (guard), Dylan Pool (forward) and John Astrofsky (guard) are the three other seniors.

Lynnfield fell to North Reading 59-57 in the CAL Kinney Division semifinals on Feb. 17 to end the year at 4-7 overall.

“This was a very different year,” admitted Bakopolus. “I was happy that the kids got to play and that we were able to have a league tournament.”

The Pioneers are slated to return six veterans for next season.

“We will be pretty young but the kids who are coming back have good chemistry,” said Bakopolus. “Hopefully, it will be a normal season.”
