Look, Razzaboni named All-Stars

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Pioneers boys’ lacrosse team finished the 2018 season with a 6-10 record, winning two more league games than they won last season.

Going into the last three games of the season, the Pioneers had to win all three games to qualify for the D3N tournament. Behind two-goal games each from freshman John Briggs, who had returned from an early season injury, sophomore Jackson Hammersley and senior captain Peter Look, the Pioneers beat Georgetown 9-3. Jack Razzaboni, GianLuca Alfe and Nick Metrano scored the other Pioneer goals.

Solid defense by Hunter Allain, Nick Buonfiglio , Harry Drislane, captain Anthony Murphy, Nick Moreschi and 16 saves from goaltender Zack Huynh paced the Pioneer defense.

With their backs against the wall having to beat both North Reading and Danvers in the final two games, the Pioneers came up just short in both games.

The first-place Hornets defeated the Pioneers 10-8 despite a gutsy Pioneer effort.

“We played our best game of the season and just came up short”, said a disappointed coach Joe Papagni. “We competed at a high level and showed what we are capable of in tough situations. Our seniors played with pride and determination; our young players followed right with them and we just got beat by a better team.”

Captain Peter Look had three goals and three assists, Alfe had two goals and one assist and captain Jack Razzaboni had two goals for the Pioneers. Zack Huynh had another great game with 11 saves.

“Zack deserved better but I was certainly proud of an outstanding effort against North Reading,” said Papagni.

The final game was senior night for the Pioneers and the seniors, captains Peter Look, Jack Razzaboni, and Anthony Murphy, Nick Metrano, Tyler Murphy, Nick Moreschi and Zack Huynh were all honored before the game. The Pioneers played the Falcons, another tournament team, tough, but lost 11-8.

“The seniors all came together and showed us how to compete,” said Papagni. “It just wasn’t enough.”

Look had three goals, Alfe two goals, and Metrano, Murphy and Razzaboni each had one goal for the Pioneers. Huynh had 11 saves in the loss.

Captains Peter Look and Jack Razzaboni were named 2018 Cape Ann League Second Team All-Stars and the Pioneers celebrated their season with a banquet on Wednesday, June 13.
