LYNNFIELD — During April Vacation Week last week, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team played two non-league games against Middlesex League opponents.
On Apr. 21, the Pioneers lost a heartbreaking, 7-6, decision to visiting Wakefield in double-overtime. The Warriors scored 52 seconds into the second four-minute overtime session to end the game.
“I was very proud of the way we played,” said Lynnfield head coach Pat Lamusta, despite the result. “That is a much bigger team than us and the game turned into a chess match.”
The Pioneers led 5-3 at the half as this game was nip-and-tuck the entire way.
Jack Calichman led the Pioneers in points with five as he had two goals and three assists. Will Norton scored three times for the third consecutive game.
Will Steadman had one goal and two assists while Drew Damiani added one assist.
On defense, sophomore A.J. Chiaradonna, had eight ground balls while junior Steve Dreher had five.
Lynnfield goalie Ben Pimentel made a season-high 14 saves.
“Ben played a great game,” stated Lamusta.
With the defeat, the Pioneers record fell to 3-2.
On Apr. 19, the Pioneers won at Wilmington by a final score of 11-4. Lynnfield took command during the first half as they went to the break up 6-1.
“We played our game and showed some good offensive firepower,” pointed out Lamusta.
Steadman had three goals and two assists while Damiani and Calichman both had two goals and three helpers as all three players ended up with five points each.
Senior co-captain, Janssen Sperling, had one goal and one assist while Norton had the hat trick.
