NORTH READING — In their road match against rival North Reading on Sept. 21, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team had their five-game winning streak snapped as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
With that result, the Pioneers record went to 5-0-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.
“Both teams had some chances,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe. “They had the territorial advantage but we had the better scoring chances.”
Munroe went on to say that the Hornets are the best team, along with Newburyport, that his squad has faced so far this fall.
Junior goalkeeper, Kelan Cardinal, went to 5-0-1 in net as he made six saves.
Munroe was pleased with the play of outside defender Charlie Morgan and center-midfielder, Dhimitri Dono, who is a co-captain.
On Sept. 19, Lynnfield blanked visiting Hamilton-Wenham by a final score of 4-0.
Chris Calnan got the locals on the scoreboard on a header 10 minutes into the first half off a corner kick by Matt Reinold. That was his first-career goal.
About 12 minutes later, freshman Brendan Reilly scored his first-career goal with Rocco Scenna assisting.
With just over four minutes left in the first half, Italian exchange student Alessandro Raimondi made it 3-0 with his first goal of the season. Reinold picked up his second assist of the half.
The team’s top goal scorer, Dillon Reilly (Brendan’s older brother) had the final tally with 15 minutes remaining. Scenna notched his second assist of the afternoon.
“It was nice to see different players scored,” pointed out Munroe. “We passed and defended well.”
Cardinal faced only one General shot on net to post the shutout.
On Sept. 28, the Pioneers will visit Ipswich at 4 p.m. The team then travels to Boxford to take on Masconomet in a non-league contest on Oct. 2. That game will also start at 4 p.m.
Lynnfield then returns to CAL action on Oct. 3 as they go to Byfield to take on Triton at 4 p.m.
