The first doubles team of Mike Gentile and Lorenzo Russo went 13-1 in the regular season and finished 16-1 overall going 3-0 in the state tournament. The second team of David Gentile and Jamil Khodr also made it as they went a perfect 14-0 on the year.

“Words can’t express how proud I am of them,” stated Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn, who just completed his third year at the helm.

This honor caps off an outstanding season for the team as they reached the Division 3 North finals before being nipped, 3-2, by the eventual state champions Weston.

It was the team’s only loss this year as they ended up at 17-1 overall. They captured the Cape Ann League Kinney division title going 9-0 in the league.

“This was a very memorable year,” said Dunn.

Lynnfield will lose six seniors to graduation. Along with Lamusta and Russo, the team will also lose Max Rothermund (first singles), co-captain Arlex Correa (second singles), Andrew Seelig and Andy DePalma.

“It was great to see them develop over the past three years,” said Dunn. “There were a great group of kids and I am going to miss them.”

The Pioneers are slated to return three starters: the Gentile brothers and Khodr.

“We have a log of holes to fill but we have some good players back,” said Dunn.
