LYNNFIELD — Samantha Pindara is the new head coach of the Lynnfield High field hockey team this fall. She takes over for Mamie Reardon who retired after 37-years at the helm back in March.

Pindara is a guidance councilor at Lynnfield High where she has been working the past three years. She found out about Reardon’s retirement while the school was closed due to the pandemic.

“I heard from former players that she was stepping down and they asked me if I was going to apply for the job,” recalled Pindara. “I applied back in May and got the job in early June.”

This will be her first-ever varsity job. She was an assistant coach at her alma matter, Chelmsford, for four years. She then was Reardon’s assistant in 2018 as she took last year off.

Pindara was a star field hockey and lacrosse player at Chelmsford High as she graduated in 2010. She then played lacrosse at Springfield College where she got her degree in history. After that she got her graduate degree at Rivier College in education counseling.

Along with coaching field hockey, she also coaches lacrosse. Pindara has been a varsity lacrosse assistant at Reading High the past five years and she was at Stoneham High the year before that.

Due to Lynnfield being a “red” town with the coronavirus, the team did not get to start practice until the middle of last week. The other Cape Ann League schools started on Sept. 18.

“We have a lot of returning players and some strong talent,” pointed out Pindara. “I am very excited.”

Eight seniors graduated from last year’s Div. 2 North champion team but Pindara does have several veterans back in Lynnfield.

“Sam will do a great job,” stated Reardon. “She was very helpful when she was with me as an assistant.”

Due to the pandemic, there will only be league games this year and no state tournament. The season will go until late November.
