LYNNFIELD — Last Friday afternoon, the Lynnfield High field hockey team was shutout, 2-0, by host Georgetown to go to 1-3-2 on the year.

After a scoreless opening half, the Royals scored single goals in the third and fourth quarters.

“Grace (Klonsky) and Julia (Carbone) were crucial in the midfield, keeping the ball out of our defensive end,” said Lynnfield head coach Samantha Pindara, about who played well in that game.

On Oct. 22, Lynnfield won at Amesbury 1-0 for the team’s first victory of the fall.

Carbone had the lone goal in the second quarter.

Ava O’Brien recorded her first shutout of the season turning back nine shots with four of those stops coming in the fourth quarter.

“That was a great team win,” stated Pindara, who recorded her first-ever varsity win as a head coach. “Defensively, the team played tough and executed the game plan. Jeanne (Carpenter) and Jacqui (Carbone) were the backbone of the defense.”

On Oct. 19, the Pioneers tied guest Rockport, 1-1.

The Vikings scored the first goal of the day in the second quarter. In the fourth, Bella Scala tied it assisted by Maddy Murphy.

O’Brien had six saves in that game.

“Grace was a powerhouse in the midfield, and was, offensively and defensively, a factor,” pointed out Pindara. “Ava (Marotta) and Jacqui were strong on defense.”

The Pioneers beat Hamilton-Wenham 5-0 on Monday, improving to 2-3-2. A full recap will appear next week.

Lynnfield’s next game will be on Friday as they host Pentucket at 3:45 p.m. They then wrap up the regular season on Nov. 3 as they go to Newburyport. That game will start at 3:30 p.m.
