LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team won its only match last week.

The Pioneers (3-4) shutout Triton on Oct. 28.

Junior Amber Gamache scored her first varsity goal 2:57 into the first half. Senior Emily Goguen and senior captain Lauren Braconnier had the assists.

“Amber did a nice job for us,” said Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont. “She was a big spark for us.”

Senior captain Ashley Mitchell gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Braconnier was credited with the assist.

“We have been talking about how we needed to stay on the far post,” said Vermont. “Lauren had a great cross and Ashley popped it in.”

Senior Lindsay Nardone started in net during the first half while junior Samantha Bunar got the call during the second half.

“Lindsay and Samantha each made a couple of good stops for us,” said Vermont.

Vermont said the Pioneers’ defense led by Braconnier, senior captain Lauren Mitchell, senior Erin Sharkey, senior Michelle Miller and junior Lanah Rosenwald played very well against the Vikings.

“They did a nice job for us,” said Vermont.

Vermont also said freshman Ally Sykes played well against Triton.

“Ally did a nice job at midfield for us,” said Vermont. “She was very aggressive.”

Vermont said he was pleased the Pioneers were able to shut out Triton.

“It was cold and wet,” said Vermont. “It was tough conditions, and our intensity level was good.”

The Pioneers faced Pentucket on Tuesday, Nov. 3, taking place after deadline. Lynnfield hosts Newburyport on Wednesday, Nov. 4, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
