LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Senior Babe Ruth baseball team evened its record at 1-1 on July 8 as they beat host Malden by a final score of 5-0 at Pine Banks. The game went four innings as it was called due to rain.

Tim Pivero improved to 1-1 on the mound going all four innings. He gave up only one hit, two walks and he fanned seven.

“He was pumping the strike zone,” said Pioneers manager Rob Higdon. “He did a great job of getting ahead of the hitters.”

Lynnfield scored three times in the top of the fifth inning all coming with two outs.

John McKrell had an RBI single for the first run while Nick Lucich delivered a two-run double to right field to make it 3-0.

In the top of the fifth, McKrell struck again with a two-run double to left to make it 5-0.

“He had a great game at the plate,” stated Higdon, as McKrell was 2 for 3 with three RBI.

Overall, the Pioneers had five hits.

On July 14 (Wednesday), the Pioneers host Bedford at 5:45 p.m. They then play at Arlington on July 18 at Summer Street Park at 7 p.m.

Lynnfield then host Winchester at Lynnfield High on July 20. That game will start at 5:45 p.m.
