Remembered for his kindness, quick wit
TOPSFIELD — George H. Meyfarth III, 78, of Topsfield, the loving husband of 46 years to Nathalie S. and devoted father of Christopher G. (Sydney Egan) of East Boston, passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2021 at Lahey Hospital after a prolonged illness.
George is also survived by his cherished brother Philip Meyfarth (Sally Nash) of Macedonia, Ohio; his dear sister, Mary E. Bacon (William) of Cromwell, Connecticut; and treasured nieces and nephews.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, George was the son of Cleopha F. Meyfarth and George H. Meyfarth Jr. In his youth, he was noted for his skills in soccer and high jumping. He graduated from Loomis Academy (1962) and Tufts University with degrees in Mechanical Engineering (M.S. 1968). Afterwards, he taught Engineering and Computer Science courses while leading the university’s first Computer Services Department and mentoring many of his former students in this new technology. After leaving Tufts, he was a founder or founding partner in several computer software companies, including Dolphin Software and SmartSource.
He will be remembered for his kindness, quick and gentle wit, encouragement of family, friends and co-workers, mentoring, and his enthusiastic role as word puzzle-meister at family gatherings. His sources of joy and fascination were his family and friends, emerging technologies, and time spent in Bonaire and Holderness, New Hampshire.
To gather safely in this time of COVID-19, the family will hold a celebration of George’s life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to Essex County Greenbelt, 82 Eastern Ave. Essex, MA 01929 (www.ecga.org) or Girls Who Code (www.girlswhocode.com).
