Dedicated family woman enjoyed many artistic pursuits

LYNNFIELD — Hazel H. Croxon, 83, of Lynnfield, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 26, 2022 at Alliance Health at Rosewood in Peabody.

Born in Edmonton, London, United Kingdom, she was the daughter of the late William and Winifred (Whiting) Hurst.

Hazel graduated high school in 1955, and went on to graduate from Hornsey Arts College of London in 1957. She emigrated with her young family to the United States in 1967. She was a talented dressmaker and designer. Hazel enjoyed many artistic and creative pursuits, including interior design, painting, knitting and quilt making, and was an avid gardener and landscape designer. She had an eye for detail, color and style. Hazel’s most important role was that of wife, mother and Nana, where she led by example and taught kindness, integrity and compassion. She will be greatly missed.

Hazel was the beloved wife of Brian Croxon, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. She was the loving mother of Deborah Croxon-Trammell of Salem; and Nigel Croxon and his wife, Beth, of Bristol, New Hampshire. She was the sister of Keith Hurst of Australia; Christina Williams of the United Kingdom; and the late Kenneth Hurst, Beryl Hurst and Audrey Smith, also of the United Kingdom. Four granddaughters also survive Hazel: Lindsay Trammell of Lynnfield; Rachael Trammell and Anna Clare Trammell of Salem; and Molly Croxon of Bristol, New Hampshire.

Hazel’s funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 127 Summer St., Lynnfield, on Saturday Sept. 10, 2022 at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Friday, Sept. 9 from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
