A devoted mother who was a lifelong lover of art

WAKEFIELD — Jean M. (Comeau) Tropeano, 82, a longtime Wakefield resident, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at MelroseWakefield Hospital.

Born in Boston on Jan. 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Doris I. (Widtfeldt) Comeau.

Jean was raised in Dorchester and attended the Jeremiah E. Burke High School. In 1953, Jean received an award from the Institute of Contemporary Arts-Massachusetts Scholastic Art Competition and was a lifelong lover of art. She was a parishioner of Saint Florence Church, and for many years worked in the business of her late husband: The B.J. Tropeano & Sons company of Wakefield.

Her family was paramount in all she did. Jean was the loving wife of over 50 years to the late Benjamin J. Tropeano Sr. She was the devoted mother of Benjamin J. Tropeano Jr. and his wife, Gayle, of Lynn; Anthony P. Tropeano and his wife, Erin, of Lynnfield; and Daniel R. Tropeano and his wife, Kellie, of Wakefield. She was the sister of Nancy Herb; the late Alice Crawford; and Clara J. Roberto, her much-adored confidant and closest friend. She was very proud of her ten grandchildren: Anthony Jr., Nicholas, Joseph, Giulia, Stephanie, Thomas, Tessa, Francesca, Elly and the late Sonny. She also leaves behind her four great grandchildren: Shay, Samuel, Anthony III and Casey.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Florence Church 47 Butler Avenue Wakefield on Saturday, April 30. Relatives and friends were attended. To sign the guestbook, visit www.mcdonaldfs.com.
