NORTH READING — Police Chief Michael P. Murphy reports that Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crimes Unit and the North Reading Police Department last week arrested a resident for allegedly possessing child pornography.
Augustine Russo, age 62, of Main Street was arrested without incident after North Reading and State Police served a search warrant on his home Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The investigation began in September, after a Cybertip was received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, indicating an e-mail address on a computer, both of which police allege they later linked to Russo, had uploaded child pornography to a social networking website.
During execution of the search warrant, investigators said they found additional images of child sexual abuse and other evidence on Russo’s laptop and on a flash memory card that may lead to additional charges.
Russo was brought to the North Reading Police Department for booking and was held on $5,000 cash bail.
The case remains under investigation. These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
