MELROSE — Margaret T. (Daly) Leonard, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 14, 2018, at the Bear Hill Rehab & Nursing Center.

Mrs. Leonard was born in Cork City, Ireland on March 29, 1930 to the late Cornelius and Charlotte (Cree) Daly. She was raised in the Turners Cross section of Cork City and came to the United States in 1956. Margaret was a homemaker and has been a resident of Melrose since 1967. Margaret was very active at St. Mary’s Church where she was a member of Our Lady’s Sodality, Altar Society, and Rosary Group. Margaret always enjoyed daily prayers, many cups of tea, and knitting. Everyone said that Margaret made the best homemade Irish Bread.

Mrs. Leonard and her late husband Peter and family enjoyed taking trips to North Conway, N.H. and trips back home to Ireland to visit family. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Peter Leonard. Loving mother of Rev. John J. Leonard, OFM of Conn., Colleen C. White and her husband Mark of Ayer, Marie E. Fullerton and her husband John of Boxford, James C. Leonard and his wife Anne of Peabody and Margaret M. Angiuoni and her husband Guy of Wilmington. Cherished grandmother of Peter and Sarah White, Liam Fullerton, Caitlyn Leonard, and Anthony, Juliana and Matthew Angiuoni. Loving sister of Bernard Daly and his wife Helen of Ireland, the late Frank Daly and his wife Helen of Ireland and the late Jack Daly, Charlotte Forde, Neil Daly, Father Bill Daly, Marie O’Connell, David Daly, and Tom Daly. Special friend and sister-in-law of Mary Canty of Somerville. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, January 19, from 4 – 8 p.m. Funeral procession from Gately Funeral Home on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
