Roafobit-webYARMOUTH, Maine — Marilyn E. (Olson) Roaf, of Yarmouth, Maine, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Yarmouth on Thursday, January 5, at age 92.

Marilyn was born in Melrose on February 26, 1924, one of four children of the late Wesley H. Olson and Bernice (Young) Olson. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1941, and went on to Winchester Hospital School of Nursing, where she was trained as a Registered Nurse.

Marilyn worked for many years in various nursing positions as a registered nurse.

She and her late husband, Milton, lived in Texas, New York, and for many years in Jacksonville, FL. Beginning with her roots in Melrose at the First United Methodist Church, Marilyn found a connection to her faith in the various states in which she resided. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling to Europe and Hawaii with her family and friends. Although she and Milton moved several times, Marilyn was always happy to return home to Massachusetts and see her New England family.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Milton Roaf with whom she shared 43 years of marriage. Mother of Lauren Black and her husband Peter of Jacksonville, FL. Sister of Clifford B. Olson and his wife Suzanne of Yarmouth, ME, the late Wesley H. Olson, Jr. and his surviving wife Joyce of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, and the late Roger C. Olson and his surviving wife Dorothy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Grandmother of Elizabeth and Paul Black. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Marilyn’s life for a graveside service at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody on Monday, January 9.
