Korean War veteran worked for Postal Service

WAKEFIELD — Martin E. Long, 83, of Wakefield and formerly of Malden, died Thursday, June 29, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Martin was born in Malden on December 18, 1933 and was the son of the late Martin J. and Mary (Kelly) Long.
Martin was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School Class of 1952. He served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a “Friend of Bill W.” and was a longtime member of the Irish American Club of Malden.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years.
Martin was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. (Gover) Long. He was the loving father of Kathleen Corcoran and her husband Michael of MD., Carole Pinette and her husband Jay of Wakefield, James Long and his wife Mary of Andover, John Long and his wife Gina of Gloucester, Martin Long and his wife Marie of Sudbury, and Mary Breda of Wakefield. He was the brother of Sarah “Sally” Toomey and the late John and James Long. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Matthew, Brendan, Derek, Katelynn, Caroline, Kathleen, Martin, James, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Ellen, Michael, Brian, Bridget and Brady. He is also survived by his 6 great-grandchildren: Maxwell, Madelynn, Brayden, Liam, Evey, and Sebastian.
