MELROSE — Mary Elizabeth Dorn passed away at Wingate at Reading on March 10.

Mary was born in Everett, raised in Salem, graduated from St. Mary Grammar School, Salem High School, Emmanuel College and received her master’s degree in Education from Harvard University.

She also received the Fulbright Scholarship to Columbia University in 1958.

Miss Dorn taught English and Spanish at Salem High School for four years, Everett High School for 36 years, Roger Ludlow High School in Connecticut and at Bridgeport University in Connecticut.

Mary was a longtime resident in Melrose where she was very involved at Incarnation Church as a lector, greeter and a member of the Parish Council. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, Modern Foreign language Association, the Melrose Women’s Club and the Emmanuel College Alumni Association.

Mary was also a member of the Melrose Senior Chorus, was a volunteer tutor at Melrose High School and loved dogs.

Miss Dorn was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary A. (Lyons) Dorn. She was the sister of the late Thomas F. Dorn Jr. and Joseph A. Dorn. Also survived by two nephews and many cousins and friends.

Family and friends gathered at Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose, at 11 a.m.

Burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Salem.
